The Public in Peril : Trump and the Menace of American Authoritarianism (Critical Interventions)

Giroux, Henry A.
紙版刊行: 2017/08
Routledge

This is one of the first books to thoroughly critique the rise of Trumpism and its potential impact, nationally and globally. Giroux offers new critiques of Trump and his early Cabinet choices in the context of longer term trends, dissects the diverse forces that led to Trump’s rise, and points to pathways for resisting his authoritarian instincts. Deep inquiries into fast-changing and pressing issues of our time makes this book 'the essential Giroux'.

Campaigning for President 2016 : Strategy and Tactics 3 New

Johnson, Dennis W./Brown, Lara M. (EDT)
紙版刊行: 2017/08
Taylor & Francis

This book focuses on the most important questions of this most unusual presidential campaign. What was the appeal of Donald Trump? Has Twitter and social media become the dominant means of communicating? How did fake news, WikiLeaks, and the Russians factor in this election? What happened to the Obama coalition and why couldn’t Hillary Clinton capitalize on it? Hundreds of millions of Super PAC dollars were raised and spent, and much of that was wasted. What happened? Is the wild west of online media the new norm for presidential contests? These and many other questions are answered in the provocative essays by scholars and practitioners.

Neoliberalism and Climate Policy in the United States : From Market Fetishism to the Developmental State (Ripe Series in Global Political Economy)

MacNeil, Robert
紙版刊行: 2017/08
Routledge

This book explores how Washington’s efforts to act on climate change have been translated under conditions of American neoliberalism. It argues that US climate policy must be understood in the context of Washington’s broader efforts over the past four decades to dominate and monopolize novel high-tech markets, and its use of immense amounts of state power to achieve this end.

商品詳細へアメリカ民主主義の4つの危機
Four Crises of American Democracy : Representation, Mastery, Discipline, Anticipation

Roberts, Alasdair
紙版刊行: 2017/01
Oxford Univ Pr

The political climate surrounding the 2016 presidential election in the United States has only reinforced the perception of democratic crisis. The author locates the U.S.'s recent bout of democratic malaise in a larger context, arguing that it is the latest in a series of very different crises that have plagued America throughout the entire post-Civil War era, and focuses on four crises: "crisis of representation" in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, "crisis of mastery" spanning the years 1917-1948, "crisis of discipline" beginning in the 1970s, and the current crisis, "crisis of anticipation" which is a future-oriented crisis, preoccupied with the capacity of democratic systems to deal with long-term problems such the rise of China and climate change.

American Exceptionalism Reconsidered : U.S. Foreign Policy, Human Rights, and World Order (International Studies Intensives)

Forsythe, David P./McMahon, Patrice C.
紙版刊行: 2016/12
Routledge

This book takes on the myths surrounding US foreign policy and the future of world order. The authors posit that what may be emerging is a new brand of American globalism, or a foreign policy that gives primacy to national self-interest but does so with considerable interest in and genuine attention to universal human rights and a willingness to suffer and pay for those outside its borders—at least on occasion. The occasions of exception—such as Libya and Syria—provide case studies for critical analysis and allow the authors to look to emerging dominant powers, especially China, for indicators of new challenges to the commitment to universal human rights and humanitarian affairs in the context of the ongoing clash between liberalism and realism.

Trump Effect

Korostelina, Karina V.
紙版刊行: 2016/10
Routledge

Aimed at the general public and students in the U.S. and internationally, the book goes beyond many explanations of the "Trump Effect". Using a multidisciplinary theoretical lens, it provides a systemic multifaceted analysis based on multiple theories of social identity, emotions, cognitions, morality, and power to explain the broader social phenomena of the rise of individuals in society.

商品詳細へラテンアメリカにおける米国の力:ヘゲモニーの再生
US Power in Latin America : Renewing Hegemony (Routledge Studies in Us Foreign Policy)

Biegon, Rubrick
紙版刊行: 2017/05
Routledge

This book utilises neo-Gramscian and historical materialist approaches to build a novel conceptual framework for analysing US hegemony. Making considerable use of confidential diplomatic cables published by Wikileaks, it examines the interplay of different facets of US hegemony, which are inextricably bound up in the neoliberalisation of the region’s political economy. This book brings clarity to what remains an open and contested process of hegemonic reconstitution, and promises to be of interest to scholars working in a number of overlapping subject areas, including International Relations (IR), US foreign policy and Latin American studies.

The Politics of Immigration : Partisanship, Demographic Change, and American National Identity

Wong, Tom K.
紙版刊行: 2017/01
Oxford Univ Pr on Demand

Focuses the analytical lens on the electoral incentives that legislators in Congress have to support or oppose immigration policy reforms at the federal level. The author argues, in contrast to previous arguments, that contemporary immigration politics in the United States can be characterized by three underlying features: the entrenchment of partisan divides among legislators on the issue of immigration, the political implications of the demographic changes that are reshaping the American electorate, and how these changes are creating new opportunities to define what it means to be an American in a period of unprecedented national origins, racial and ethnic, and cultural diversity.
