Over the past decades, Japan has faced severe earthquake disasters, an increasing ageing population, declining birth rates and widening social disparties. Japanese 'machizukuri' defines diverse and creative community-driven management models, by which loclal communities are anabled to actively tackle problem-solving. This book explores the development of machizukuri in Japan and in East Asia.
